The new Industrial Revolution: opportunities in creating a low carbon economy
On Monday night [25th January] Pat McFadden MP delivered the tenth speech in the Progress lecture series
Pat made a speech outlining the industry and jobs potential of the transition to a lower carbon economy. He argues that a comprehensive worldwide agreement on lower emissions can help drive a second industrial revolution focussed on cleaner energy, lower carbon transport and lower carbon consumption habits.
He also warned that the economic potential of the transition has been underplayed and that the current dialogue over climate change - often based on discussion of emissions targets and individual behavioural change - is at risk of excluding parts of the population and parts of the country.
At a time when there is a critical debate over Britain's post recession economy he will also say that the Labour Party is best placed to ensure Britain makes the most of the transition to a lower carbon economy, because this change is dependent on an activist government working with business and consumers.
